Anurag Kashyap always speaks his mind about films and storytelling. He is known for supporting indie films and artistry. He recently denounced the fake behavior in Bollywood. In an interview with Zoom TV, he explained why he defended Sandeep Reddy Vanga and criticized the ‘toxicity’ in the industry. Anurag said, “I like the guy (Sandeep). I have no problem with him.’ He continued: “Unlike many people in the industry who pretend to be someone they are not, he is honest. I think the first kind is even more poisonous. But Vanga is an honest man. I love nothing more than honesty, regardless of others’ problems with honesty. I love talking to him.”

Recently, Aaliyah Kashyap interviewed her father for her podcast Young, Dumb & Anxious. She asked him why he supported Sandeep despite criticism as she personally didn’t like his film Animal. Aaliyah said, “The caption of the post where you promoted the guy, which I wasn’t very happy with. I saw Animal and immediately called you and ranted, “What a terrible, misogynistic movie this is and how I hated it,” and you agreed with me. When I opened Instagram a week later, I saw a post from my dad promoting a guy I was bitching about.”

Anurag explained, “I met him (Sandeep) and I liked him. I like the guy. I had questions of my own and I wanted to talk to him about his movie (Animal) and I invited him and I had a long talk for five hours and I like him… I always believe in talking to people. I was canceled by a lot of people after Dev D (2009) for making a ‘misogynistic’ film… I have often seen people isolating someone, attacking someone and that is not the way it should be done.”

Anurag Kashyap is known for films and web series like Black Friday, Dev D, No Smoking, Gulaal, Gangs of Wasseypur, Mukkabaaz, Sacred Games and Manmarziyaan. His upcoming film Kennedy was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023. The film stars Sunny Leone, Rahul Bhat and Abhilash Thapliyal among others in key roles. Kennedy will hit Indian theaters later this year.
