Dangerous intersection in Pitt County is getting a safety upgrade

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) -An eastbound intersection that has seen a high number of crashes is getting a safety upgrade.

The K intersection, as it is known to many in Pitt County, can be confusing and dangerous.

It is the area of NC 903, Red Forbes and Pocosin Road.

In April 2023, NCDOT said it planned to realign part of one of the roads and add an intermediate stop.

Earlier this year, DOT officials told us work would begin in June and workers were on site Monday. The plan is to have the work completed in the fall before school.

The NCDOT began investigating the area in 2010. Between 2010 and 2020, there were 34 wrecks at the intersection. Officials said if an area has more than 10 wrecks in a 10-year period, it requires a complete shutdown or the initiation of an investigation.
