A senior British judge who resigned from Hong Kong’s High Court last week warned on Monday that the rule of law in the financial center is in “grave danger” due to the political environment created by China.

Jonathan Sumption’s op-ed, published in the Financial Times, comes on the same day Beverley McLachlin announced her resignation from the Court of Final Appeal in Hong Kong, citing her desire to spend more time with family.

McLachlin, 80, is the third foreign judge to announce a departure in the past week, following the resignations of Sumption, 75, and Lawrence Collins, 83 – both former judges of the UK Supreme Court.
